Private by default is a product decision

Browser-based compression keeps a simple promise: your images can get lighter without taking a detour through someone else’s server.

Private by default is a product decision illustration

There is a meaningful difference between a tool that says it values privacy and one that does not need your files in the first place.

The smallest useful boundary

If the browser can read, transform, and export an image locally, an upload step is unnecessary for the core job. Fewer handoffs mean fewer permissions to explain and fewer places for a file to wait.

Local does not mean limited

Modern browsers can run serious image codecs with WebAssembly and Web Workers. That gives a small utility the ability to stay fast and private while still supporting real compression, resizing, and batch work.

Make the promise visible

Privacy should not hide in a terms page. A useful product explains where processing happens at the moment a person chooses to trust it.

That is the principle behind CompressOrDie’s browser-based compressor: the image is read and transformed on your device, then you download the result locally.
